Sunday: Yogasana Center
Still feeling stretched out from Saturday, I headed down to Yogasana Center for Witold's 10am Level 1 class. Yogasana Center was founded by Kristen Davis, and it teaches iyengar technique, which focuses on correct anatomical alignment, sequence of postures and holding poses. Yogasana frequently offers free beginner classes. I'd often walked past the bright, storefront at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Warren Street, but only as a way to get a caffeine fix at Gorilla Coffee. The large studio was airy and friendly, even Kristen's dog lounged comfortably next to the entry desk. Witold's class on Sunday concentrated on twisting - both standing and sitting. He led the class, aided by two assistants, with a wonderfully precise explanation of the poses, and my back certainly felt stretched out. We ended the class using a bolster under the lower back in final relaxation. I felt that the Yogasana Center would be excellent for others who spend long hours at a desk and for those who desire precise, expert instruction. I was looking forward to my next yoga class.
